Memorial Mass for Terry Gleeson will take place in Nenagh this Saturday, after which his ashes will be laid to rest in Kilmore cemetery, Silvermines.

Death of Nenagh man in Florida

The death occurred on March 4 last of Terrence Gleeson of Naples, Florida.

Terry, aged 92, died in the company of his daughter Stephanie and his wife Ena.

He is also survived by his brothers Dan and Michael, his sisters Mary Kruser and Joan Mellet and his many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents Daniel and Eileen, his first wife Sheila, his sisters, Norah Healy (Nenagh) and Roselle Rowlands (New Zealand).

Terry was born in 13 Summerhill, Nenagh. His father was Daniel (Dan) Gleeson, who was the editor of the Nenagh Guardian in the 1930s and was also a teacher in the CBS in Nenagh. Dan died in a motoring accident in December 1940, leaving his wife and five very young children, of which Terry, aged 7, was the eldest.

Terry was educated in Cistercian College Roscrea and UCC, where he graduated with an MA in Irish. On the sporting front he was an avid rugby player and was selected to play on Ireland’s Combined Universities team. He later played Leinster senior rugby with Lansdowne.

During his career, Terry worked in a senior position with the Department of Finance in Dublin. On emigration to the US he joined the tax department of IBM. He graduated from Fordham Law School to become an attorney in the US. A few years later he was transferred to Paris as lead tax expert for IBM.

On Saturday, April 11, in St Mary of the Rosary, Nenagh, Mass will be celebrated for the repose of Terry’s soul at 11am. Afterwards his ashes will be laid to rest in Kilmore cemetery, Silvermines.
