First half struggles are hurting us - Mulcahy

By Michael Heverin

Tipperary minor football manager Kevin Mulcahy was disappointed with what he described as a ‘passive’ display in the first half but encouraged by the second half improvement as his sides hopes of progressing to phase 2 of the Munster Championship hang by a thread.

“It was no different to last week (against Limerick), which was disappointing” he began.

“We have to take it on the chin that as a management we are not getting the first half right for two weeks in a row.

“Waterford were good and took their chances, but in the second half we showed the football that we could play.

“I don’t think we did much wrong, but we didn’t finish our attacks well enough, and that sucked the energy out of us early in the game, it drew the confidence out of the players.

“They got their three goals off our kick-outs but we were running into our own players and technical stuff that we have to get right. We are working on it but it’s not happening.

“The teams are all very even in the group but we haven’t performed in the championship, so let’s call a spade a spade.

“We have a really good football team and we expressed it in the second half and we are lucky that there is something to train for this week. It’s a very doable thing”.
