Concerned local residents and business owners called for traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and a zebra crossing on Sarsfield St last year.

Traffic problems persist on Nenagh street

Tipperary Co Council has heard further calls for something to be done about speeding motorists and heavy goods vehicles on Sarsfield St in Nenagh.

Raising the matter at the February meeting of the council’s Nenagh Municipal District, Cllr JP O’Meara said some truck drivers and bus drivers are not adhering to the Mitchel St sign restricting access onto Sarsfield St. Sat nav is the excuse used by some drivers.

Cllr O’Meara also called for a raised pedestrian crossing on Sarsfield, where he said motorists are speeding at certain times of the day and night. This has become a particular problem for residents on the street, Cllr O’Meara said, suggesting that a raised crossing similar to the one recently installed on Kenyon St might be the solution.

Cllr Louise Morgan Walsh added that a raised crossing is “badly needed” at Centra.

District Engineer Barry Murphy said the council is looking at the traffic situation in the area. He mentioned that a speed limit review is also pending.
