Tipp's Dee impresses Glór Tíre judges
Tipperary’s Dee Morrissey may not have won the title of Glór Tíre Champion 2026, but country fans all over Ireland now know who she is, and the singer’s profile has never been higher.
Dee was one of three finalists on the Grand Final of the long-running, hit country music show, broadcast live on TG4 last Tuesday, competing against fellow Munster singer, Paudie Coffey from Co Kerry, and Northern Irish singer, Jordan McPolin from Co Down.
While Jordan proved the eventual winner, Dee did Tipp proud, being the third singer from The Premier County to make the Grand Final in the last four years, following in the footsteps of 2023 Finalist, Molly O’Connell, and 2022 Winner, Aishling Rafferty.
Dee, from Bansha in south Tipp, showcased her impressive vocal style in the Grand Final with spirited renditions of Lisa McHugh’s ‘Hillbilly Girl’ and ‘The Island’, by Scottish folk band Skipinnish.
“I can't believe I made it all the way to the Final,” said Dee. “I never thought I'd get through the first round. It's been absolutely incredible. I’m so proud of being from Tipperary, and I just can't get over all the support I've had. There've been signs everywhere you drive; the blue and gold bunting was up. Posters everywhere, people coming up to me, saying they were supporting me. People were getting on buses week in, week out, to come up to the live shows. What I take home from this is that I'll always feel loved.”
Dee is now determined to build on the momentum created by her Glór Tíre Season 22 run, and her sights are set on taking her Country Music career to the next level.
“Glór Tíre has been such an amazing platform,” she said. “People who never knew who I was know my name now, and the phone is ringing off the hook. I'm heading to Scotland in April with Hot Country and to Portugal for The Fun In The Sun. There's so much coming up, and that’s what I want: More concerts, festival shows, guest spots and appearances at the weekenders. So, to all the promoters out there, and all the bigger bands, if you're listening, hit me up on Facebook.”
