Illegal hare hunting in North Tipp

GardaĆ and wildlife rangers responded to a series of reports of trespassing and illegal hunting of hares on lands around North Tipperary in recent days.

Incidents were reported at Aglish on Wednesday, Ardcroney on Thursday and Ballinahinch on Friday. There were further reports of similar incidents around Ballingarry and Shinrone last week, where locals said hare hunting on private lands without the permission of the landowner has been ongoing for several weeks.

The hunters in one incident had reportedly travelled from a location in South Tipperary. A member of a local coursing club told this newspaper that the offenders are causing fear and intimidation in the area.

GardaĆ in Nenagh confirmed that several reports of illegal hare hunting have been made across the district. Members of the public are advised not to confront intruders but to immediately report suspicious activity to their local garda station, providing as much detail as possible.
