Nenagh's unique shopping experience

Council praised for its efforts

Tipperary Co Council has been praised for its facilitation of so many Christmas events in Nenagh and for having the town looking so well at this time. At last week’s meeting of the council’s Nenagh Municipal District, councillors expressed hope that these efforts would lead to greater numbers of people shopping local.

Cllr Joe Hannigan said a huge volume of local people are shopping online from overseas and other parts of the country. He hoped the ‘Shop Local’ message would ring true this Christmas and wanted the council to help local traders develop an online as well as physical presence. Tipperary Chamber of Commerce should be consulted on such an initiative in the new year, Cllr Hannnigan suggested.

Director of Services Liam Brett concurred about the online challenge to local retail but said Nenagh offers an “absolutely unique” shopping experience with so many indigenous and family-owned businesses.Cllr Louise Morgan Walsh said Nenagh was “buzzing” in the lead-up to Christmas and she agreed that shoppers like the local touch. She also took the opportunity to praise the council for having the streets “immaculate” again the morning after the Christmas Tractors Nenagh event.
