Sr Helena visits Nenagh Holy Spirit Prayer Group
On Tuesday, November 18, Nenagh Holy Spirit Prayer Group welcomed Sr Helena O'Donoghue, Sister of Mercy.
In 1974, seven years after charismatic renewal gave birth in the US, Sr Helena felt called to bring the Holy Spirit to life for ordinary people in Nenagh. Within a few months the group had 10 to 12 members making it one of the earliest charismatic prayer groups to be set up in Ireland.
Fifty years ago, 1975 was also declared a Jubilee Year and she represented the group in Rome at the first International Charismatic Renewal Conference. “I remember the joy and excitement of being in Rome for Pentecost with 100,000 people from across the globe,” said Sr Helena. “We sang with joy and praise to God... a living body of Christ having a personal and communal connection to God’s Spirit. I will never forget it,” she remembers.
She continued: “The Holy Spirit, the spirit of God continues to flow like a river, sometimes it flows wide and sometimes like a stream, but always flowing.” She sowed a seed back then and 51 years later, Nenagh Holy Spirit Prayer Group continues to bring joy, peace and hope to all who come.
Sr Helena encouraged all attending to continue to sow seeds of love, hope and joy of God, especially to those who are struggling. She was presented with flowers from Una Clearly and Phyllis O'Halloran, the oldest serving members of the group.
Nenagh Holy Spirit Prayer Group would like to thank all who helped out at our recent Life in The Spirit Seminar. They meet every Tuesday night, 7.45pm at the Pastoral Centre, Church Road.
Their annual Advent Adoration Healing night will take place on Tuesday, December 2, for all who want to lift their hearts in preparation for the Christmas season.
