Corbally United 0-3 Nenagh AFC

Nenagh AFC took on Corbally United in Athlunkard on Sunday in a vital relegation clash. Defeat for Nenagh would have left them five points adrift of safety but a superb 3-0 win saw them leapfrog their opponents out of the drop zone.

The scoreline is rather harsh on Corbally who had an even share of possession but the Tipperary side proved more clinical when the chances presented.

The home side had a great chance to go in front when Eoin O’Connell got in behind the Nenagh defence but goalkeeper Carl Williams came to the rescue with a fine save

Nenagh took the lead after ten minutes when Daniel Connolly’s ball into the area, was headed into his own net by a Corbally defender and a minute later it was 2-0. A superb build up from full back ended with Dan O’Meara playing the ball across goal for Daniel Connolly to apply the finishing touch.

Corbally went chasing the game but found the visitors back four a solid obstacle. The work rate of Saeed Ryan in the middle of the park offered superb protection to his defence.

With four minutes remaining Nenagh made sure of the win. Bryan McGee played a clever ball over the top for O’Meara to race through and he won the challenge with the Corbally keeper before walking the ball into an empty net.

Lower Leagues

The Premier ‘A’ League is turning into a real thrilling promotion. Kilmallock’s 3-1 defeat on Saturday allowed Newport Town or Moyross to go joint top if either won the clash between the sides on Sunday.

Luke Ryan gave Newport the lead midway through the half but Adrian Power levelled for the visitors before the break. Conor Brett restored Newport’s lead just after the restart but with twenty minutes remaining Jay Ryan equalised for Moyross and Cian Power scored the winner for Moyross eight minutes from time.

Ballynanty Rovers ‘B’ maintained their three-point lead in Division 1B following a hard earned 2-1 win over Newport Town ‘B’ on Saturday. Aaron Nunan scored both for Balla with Conor McHugo netting the Newport reply.
