Fake or Fact? Become media savvy. Think sharp. Click smart

Media literacy is the ability to access, analyse, evaluate and create media in a variety of forms and to understand the role of media and information in democratic societies.

AI and media literacy are interconnected topics because AI impacts how we consume and create media, making existing media literacy skills essential, while also requiring new skills like understanding how AI systems work to verify information and identify synthetic content like deepfakes. Developing media literacy in the age of AI is crucial for critically evaluating information, recognising the potential for bias or manipulation, and using these powerful tools responsibly. Key skills include questioning sources, verifying information across multiple sources, and understanding the human and ethical implications behind AI-generated content.

It’s all about learning to Stop, Think and Check when it comes to media content that we encounter both online and in the real world.

As part of the Skills for Life programme a Media Literacy workshop will be held in Nenagh Library on Monday, November 10, at 10.30am. This 90-minute workshop will also include a tour of Nenagh Library.
