Update on primary care centre
Following on from the opening of the new Nenagh Community Health Centre and the decision to commence work on turning the old St Conlon’s Home into a centre for mental health services, Deputy Alan Kelly has provided an update on some other capital works in the town.
Deputy Kelly said: “I have been informed by the HSE that the new primary care centre and outpatient department in Tyone will be open in the new year. Final commissioning works are underway and staffing is being organised. After this current services will transfer there and new services will (once staffing is in place) be located there.
“This new centre which will also include TUSLA, HSE Outpatient Department with associated doctor’s surgery, dental, treatment rooms, offices and meeting rooms. On completion, the HSE will offer a wide range of services including nursing, physio, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, social work, dietician, ophthalmology, podiatry and dental services. The primary care centre would also include a chronic disease management team, including community-based specialist service in the areas of cardiology, respiratory and diabetes.
“The site will also include additional outpatient capacity for UL Hospitals Group. These additional clinic facilities would essentially be an expansion of the facilities at Nenagh Hospital and would enable an increase of overall outpatient services from the level and type of services currently being provided locally.
“The facilities are ideally located adjacent to existing healthcare facilities in Tyone such as Nenagh Hospital and new Community Nursing Unit and the new facility will complement and work in an integrated fashion with these existing facilities.
“I have also been informed that a team has been appointed for the new 24-bed block that is to be located at Nenagh Hospital. Planning will be applied for in 2026.”
Fellow Tipp TD, Ryan O’Meara, has also welcomed the update on the capital works.
