Farmers’ Haggart Launch meeting set for Borrisoleigh
Farmers and rural families across North Tipperary are invited to the Farmers’ Haggart Launch Meeting, taking place on Wednesday, October 29, at 7.30pm in the Community Hall, Pallas Street, Borrisoleigh.
The event is a partnership between Mary Oakley - Farm Safety Community Champion with Irish Rural Link - and the New Futures Farming Group.
It will feature guest speakers from New Futures, Embrace FARM, and Jim of the Mill, all sharing their insights on farming life, safety and wellbeing.
The Farmers’ Haggart initiative aims to bring back the spirit of the “great neighbour” - giving farmers the chance to meet, connect and support one another. It’s about fostering friendship, sharing knowledge and building stronger local networks within farming communities.
The Haggart is a place where people can gather, talk openly and share their experiences of modern farming life - the good days and the challenging ones. It’s about recognising the value of community, the importance of checking in with each other and remembering that no one should feel alone in their work.
MAKING CONNECTIONS
Mary Oakley, one of ten National Farm Safety Community Champions with Irish Rural Link, and a coach specialising in personal and business wellbeing, explained: “Farming can be an isolating job at times, but it doesn’t have to be. The Farmers’ Haggart is about connection, conversation and community - taking the time to check in, share a story and lend a hand, just like generations before us did. When people support each other, everyone benefits.”
Those attending can expect an evening of conversation, learning and plenty of good company. The night will also include information on how to start a Farmers’ Haggart group in your own area, helping to keep community spirit alive and strong across rural Ireland. Everyone is welcome to come along, learn more about the initiative and enjoy a relaxed and friendly evening among neighbours. Open to all - men, women, young and old who love farming and community.
