Council action on litter

Tipperary Co Council issued 122 fixed penalty notices in respect of littering and illegal dumping offences up to August 12 this year.

These were issued for litter fines, waste management enforcement and waste byelaws (household waste inspections). Litter fines accounted for 79 of these fines.

A total of three litter fines were issued in Nenagh Municipal District, along with five fixed payment notices under the Waste Management Bye Laws - Bins – and one fixed payment notice for contravention of the Waste Management Act by an authorised waste collector.

Four litter fines were issued in Thurles Municipal District, which includes Roscrea and Templemore. There were also 17 fixed payment notices under the Waste Management Bye Laws, and four fixed payment notices for contravention of the Waste Management Act by an authorised waste collector.

Meanwhile a total of 327 household waste survey letters were issued since early 2025 to households in Co Tipperary. The compliancy rate to date is 84% with 275 householders providing evidence of their waste service providers. To date, 35 fixed payment notices have been issued for failure to provide evidence of a waste service.

A total of 59 household waste surveys were carried out in Nenagh district - 50 properties were compliant. Another 108 household waste surveys were carried out in Thurles - 90 were compliant.
