A night to remember
Templemore’s rich musical story turned another page last Sunday evening as ‘Out the Road’ and a host of familiar local performers filled the Templemore Arms Hotel with song, spirit, and community pride.
Originally planned as an outdoor gig at Tom the Buck’s, the event was quickly relocated indoors when the weather turned wet and wild, but if anything, the new venue gave the night an extra touch of intimacy. With the hotel’s function room packed to the rafters, the audience settled in for a concert that celebrated not only Templemore’s past but its future.
The evening was inspired by Templemore historian Ronan Loughnane, whose passion for documenting Templemore’s music has preserved the memory of countless Sunday night sessions that once defined the town’s social scene. This concert continued that legacy, with every note recorded to become part of a growing musical archive for future generations.
The young musicians of ‘Out the Road’ - Ben Collins, Aoife Kelly, Niamh Kennedy and Ciara O’Brien - delivered a performance brimming with talent, energy and heart, proving that the next wave of Templemore musicians is ready to carry the torch.
Their setlist balanced soulful covers with lively, crowd-pleasing numbers that had the audience singing along. They were joined by some of the town’s most beloved musical figures: Willie Fogarty, Johnny Keegan, Charlie Ford, Maxi Mooney and Dinny Quirke.
Their performances brought a wonderful mix of nostalgia and warmth, reminding everyone of the many Sunday nights that inspired this project in the first place.
The night was more than just a concert - it was a gathering of neighbours, friends and families who came together to celebrate what makes Templemore unique. Conversations buzzed between sets, applause rang out after every song, and the shared sense of pride was palpable.
As the final notes faded, the audience knew they had witnessed something special: a continuation of Templemore’s living musical tradition. Thanks to the recording on the night, these performances will remain part of the town’s story long after the last chord was played.
One attendee said: “Templemore has always had music at its heart and judging by Sunday night’s show, that heart is beating stronger than ever.” Updates and details on the live recording will be shared on the Templemore Community Facebook page, Tuath Corca Téine, so everyone who cherishes Templemore’s music can stay connected to this ongoing story.
