Carden family visit Barnane

A gathering of the Carden family visited Barnane old cemetery recently.

The great researcher, Arthur Carden, sadly passed to his eternal reward earlier in 2025 and it was his express wish that his ashes be spread over the Carden graves in Barnane. His son Mark performed the task, and we are quite sure that Arthur is happy to be blowing around the fields he connected so much with.

The Carden family first came to Templemore around 1665 and stayed until 1902. Arthur first came to Templemore around the 1960s to an auction at which he bought some chairs. He continued to visit for the rest of his years, always bringing a new family relative with him to ensure they kept the story alive.

One subject that always kept Arthur’s interest up was the location of the missing house, which was the house that the family moved to following the burning of the Blackcastle c1740. Despite many attempts to locate the mansion, it is quite ironic that due to a geo-physical survey carried out by Tipperary County Council we may now have identified its whereabouts, sadly after Arthur had passed.

We say a fond farewell to Arthur and thank him for all his research into the Cardens, which proved invaluable to us over the years. We also say a big thank you to his family, who travelled from around the world to attend on Saturday.
