Nenagh Nomads take to the stage

This Saturday, September 20, will see a lot of well-known musicians from Nenagh join together for a project called Nomads in the Nenagh Arts Centre.

The concept is the latest from Jimmy Tooher and Daryl Hogan and consists of 11 original songs. The music is a mix of blues, indie and folk, and the lyrics shift from the personal to the abstract.

Joining them on the night to complete the four-piece band is Marty Ryan and Philly Brett, who are highly accomplished musicians playing in various bands around Nenagh, their current project, a Rage Against the Machine tribute band, ‘Feckin Raging’. Gary Scully will be opening the night at 8pm with his unique ‘Butterfly in the Storm’ performance which includes comedy, storytelling, music and spoken word.

There will be several special guests joining Nomads on stage throughout the night. Jimmy’s sister, another well-known Nenagh musician, Grace will join Jimmy in the middle of the set for three pared back acoustic songs, joined by Aisling Twomey from Toomevara on tin whistle for one song.

David Moylan, well known for his drumming ability back in the day, will take to the stage and join the lads for a Cure song on drums with Gary Scully on piano for the same song.

Towards the end of the performance, Ger Carey, from well-known Nenagh band ‘No More Mossies’, will be joining Nomads and playing didgeridoo for one song called ‘Blood Moon’. There will be a Fleetwood Mac song performed by Nomads as well but an older more obscure number from the Peter Green days for the diehard fans.

Nomads invite you to finish off the summer before the dark evenings kick in with something a little special and a little different. It’s going to be a genuinely varied and eclectic night of live music you don’t want to miss. If you can’t make it, please spread the word with as many music lovers as possible and tell any of your music-loving friends and family. Tickets available from the Nenagh Arts Centre website (€15) or on the door on the night.
