Water network upgrade continues in Tipp

With leaves beginning to change colour and schools returning, Uisce Éireann is making progress on vital upgrades to Carrick-on-Suir’s drinking water infrastructure, replacing aging pipes and tackling leakage to ensure a stronger, more reliable water supply for the local community.

The works, which are being carried out under Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, involve the replacement of 1.7km of aging water mains, which have been prone to bursts and high levels of leakage, with new modern pipes.

Over 1.1km of water mains have been replaced so far.

These upgrades will significantly reduce water loss, improve pressure, and enhance the overall resilience of the water network, serving homes and businesses in the area.

Uisce Éireann will commence work on New Street from Monday, 25 August, before moving on to Bridge Street on Monday, 1 September where works will continue until 28 September.

A number of phased road closures will take place to facilitate the safe and efficient delivery of these essential works.

Bridge Street will be closed from 1 September until 28 September, West Gate will be closed from 29 September until 3 October, while New Street will be closed from 6 October to 17 October.

Local and Emergency access will be maintained throughout these works.

Speaking about the works, Dave Murphy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “We are committed to delivering a more secure and reliable water supply to communities across Ireland. These works in Carrick-on-Suir are part of that effort, ensuring fewer disruptions, improved water quality, and a network that’s fit for the future.

“We’re delighted with the progress made on this project and would like to thank the people of Carrick-on-Suir for their continued patience and support as these essential works continue.”

The works are being carried out by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
