Nenagh’s animal hospital marks new era in veterinary care
A NEW and exciting chapter for a veterinary practice serving the people of Nenagh and farming sector for almost eight decades has begun, with the official opening of a multi-million euro new-look and vastly expanded care centre.
After over a year of refurbishment works, Summerhill Vets has been transformed into an ultra-modern hospital for animals of all kinds.
Owners Eamon O’ Connell and Aidan Doyle say the upgrade at 26 Summerhill was necessary so that their practice can offer an even better quality of animal care than the clinic has delivered ever since it was first founded by the late Jack Powell in 1947.
“Feelings of relief to be finished the project are mixed with pride in what we have achieved up to now,” said Eamon O’ Connell.
He revealed that the upgrade has come at no small cost. “There is the ever-lingering feeling of nervousness in the background - we borrowed a lot of money.
“The hard work only really stars now, and will continue for many years to come, if we want to make a real success of what we have built thus far,” Eamon told The Guardian. “I think you need ‘the fear’ to keep you motivated and to drive on.”
Eamon and Aidan both started working in the practice as newly graduated vets in 2006, before subsequently purchasing it from its former owners a decade later.
Since then, the team of vets, veterinary nurses and front-of-house staff has grown exponentially in order to meet the growing demands of an ever expanding clientele.
GREAT CARE
Aidan Doyle said that great care went into the planning and design of the new building. “Our aim from the start was to provide a calming and pleasant experience for our clients and their animals and a nice place to work both four ourselves and our hard-working staff,” said Aidan.
“What we have created is a modern progressive veterinary clinic that we hope will be a great addition to the town of Nenagh, while providing a great service to our all our loyal farmers and pet owners.”
The clinic, with a new spacious customer car park, was abuzz on Thursday week last as special guest, Tipperary hurling star Noel McGrath, was greeted by staff, family and friends who had gathered to witness him cut the ribbon to mark the official opening. Both Eamon and Aidan say they wish to thank all their customers for the loyalty that has enabled this major refurbishment - designed to meet the need of a new and more sophisticated era in veterinary care.
“There has been great excitement in the clinic over the past few weeks as all our long-standing customers and friends come to see what we now have to offer,” said Eamon.
He added: “Let’s hope that moving with the times and making plans for the future have a positive outcome for us and for everyone who supports us.”
