‘Fantastic’ plan for Nenagh

A ‘TOWN Centre First Plan’ for Nenagh is to go on public display after the document was officially noted by local public representatives at the July meeting of the Nenagh Municipal District.

District Administrator Rosemary Joyce said the plan, which was commissioned by Tipperary County Council, sets out a vision for the development of the town centre over the next 15 years. Among the ambitions of the plan are to encourage more people to live in the urban core of the town and the restoration of a range of historic buildings to maximise the attractiveness of the town centre while boosting visitor numbers and preserving the vibrant, distinctive and customer-friendly retail offering.

Among other aims of the plan, to be made public on the council’s website, are tackling dereliction as well as strengthening local enterprise, creating jobs, boosting social inclusion, and increasing accessibility and mobility.

Cllr Fiona Bonfield described the blueprint as “an absolutely fantastic plan”. It tackled every area of note and set out the work that needed to be addressed in the town, she said.

“It is full of very positive stuff and I know that funding will be required to achieve the ambitions, but there are very positive targets in the plan," she Cllr Bonfield.
