Nenagh get ready - it's showtime this Bank Holiday Monday
By Brendan Murphy
THE North Tipperary Agricultural Show this coming August Bank Holiday Monday promises to be a spectacular occasion, with all the stops pulled out by the organisers to mark the 150th anniversary staging of the event in Nenagh.
There will be something for everyone at this year’s show as it promises to be a great family day out.
Music and song will feature strongly with local country star Aishling Rafferty taking to the stage at 11am in the showgrounds on the Borrisokane Road.
Aishling - a former Glór Na Tíre winner - has established herself as one of Ireland’s top Country Music performers, and quite rightly so, as her mellifluous vocal talent has attracted a huge and loyal following. We are delighted to have Aishling back again this year, along with local band, The Reset, who will take to the stage after Aishling at 1pm.
Our live music session will continue throughout the day and will include the Mishneach Choir and the Nenagh Ormond Brass Band.
FUN FOR CHILDREN
There will be lots of attractions for children as the hard-working committee has gone all out to make next Monday’s event a real family day out.
There will be face painting, bouncy castles, a pet farm and lots of amusements to keep little minds entertained on the day.
A special treat is in store for the children on the day as there will be a magician on site to deliver a live performance.
CLASSIC AND VINTAGE CARS
The Nenagh Classic Car Club will once again stage their Classic Car Show, which has proven so popular with spectators at the annual show. The car club has grown from strength to strength over the years and we expect yet another big display of classic and vintage models.
The Nenagh Classic Car Club invites all classic and vintage vehicle owners to take part and extends an invitation to owners of vintage tractors. All vehicles must be in place before 12pm.
ENTRiES
Entries for this year’s show have been quite strong in all sections, and the show committee are expecting a busy, exciting occasion. The introduction of some new categories, such as goats, has attracted great attention. The Dog Show enquiries have been through the roof, as normal, and so we expect a strong showing of dogs, which always proves a hit with adults and children alike.
Cattle sections are again quite strong, and with alterations to some of the categories, we are hoping that exhibitors will have a most enjoyable day on Monday. Sheep and pony sections are all filling up and have yet again proven to be popular sections.
The horticultural tent will be a hive of activity as entries this year have exceeded expectations, with entries coming in from young and old. This is an event not to be missed as the annual North Tipperary Agricultural Show celebrates a century and a half of putting on top-class entertainment for the enjoyment of the people of the riding and further afield.
To mark this special occasion the first 150 people through the gate on show day go in for free. There will be so much to see and do for all the family at this year’s extravaganza.
