Kenneally aims to follow in Gleeson’s footsteps

Sean Kenneally is aiming to follow in the footsteps of Moneygall clubmate John Gleeson for a second time this year.

The Tipp forward has featured off the bench in four of their games on route to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling final, contributing crucial late points in the wins over Clare and Waterford in the Munster Championship.

Back in 1971, John Gleeson started at corner back as Tipperary won the All-Ireland title. Four years later, Moneygall were the kingpins of Tipperary, winning the first of back-to-back county senior hurling titles.

The 1975 success saw John selected as the Nenagh Guardian North Tipperary Hurler of the Year, an accolade bestowed on Sean Kenneally earlier this year, for his lead role in helping Moneygall to the 2024 County Intermediate Hurling title.

Both men got together recently with John showing Sean his 1971 winners medal, as well a ticket stub from the final. How times have changed in terms of the admission price of £1.50 for a stand ticket in 1971, to €100 for a similar seat next Sunday.
