Bronagh's a cut above the rest
Hair cut fundraiser for children’s hospice
Nenagh’s Bronagh Kelly donated 14 inches of her hair to The Rapunzel Foundation, whilst also raising over €1,900 for LauraLynn Children’s Hospice.
Just like her big sister, Naoise Kelly, Bronagh donated her hair after making her communion.
“My sister donated hers when she was younger and I started thinking since my hair was so long I might do it as well,” said eight-year-old Bronagh Kelly.
“I didn’t even notice when it was being cut. I was nervous going in, but I was excited that I was going to make a wig for somebody else, I’m really happy I did it,” said Bronagh.
An Act Of Kindness
Locks for Love for LauraLynn allows participants to help two charities at once with their hair donation.
Their hair is donated to either the ‘The Little Princess Trust’ or ‘The Rapunzel Foundation’ which provide free real hair wigs to both children and adults who have lost their hair. The money that participants raise through the Locks for Love for LauraLynn – hair donation fundraiser is donated to LauraLynn which helps children with life-limiting conditions.
“Some girls might have like an illness, and when they go to get the medicine and stuff their hair might fall out,” explained Bronagh as to why it was a kind thing to do for another little girl.
Bronagh’s older sister, Naoise Kelly decided to donate her hair during the Covid period after her hair was left to grow longer than usual.
“Both girls, their hair grows quite fast. They both have extremely thick hair,
“It was just getting longer and longer. Naoise wanted to cut her hair up to her shoulders and I just explained that it could be donated as I had seen other people do it,” explained Bronagh and Naoise’s mother, Nessa Kelly.
Naoise’s actions inspired Bronagh to follow in her footsteps and donate her hair after she made her communion this year.
Although Bronagh does miss some of her old hairstyles, she is delighted that she got to help another little girl and would like to make another kind donation in the future.
“If my hair grows longer, I probably will,” responded Bronagh as whether or not she would do it again.
