Roscrea Heritage Society news

Huge thanks to Johnny Keegan, Charly Forde and Liam Wright, who gave a fantastic performance in the Black Mills for June’s session.

The talented trio engaged the audience of the sold out show from start to finish and a great night was had by all! The society would also like to thank the OPW for the use of the stunning venue and Eileen for all her help. Last but not least, huge thanks to all who attended; your support is greatly appreciated. Nights like these would not be possible without the support of you all.

Save the date: Friday, July 25. Come join us at The Black Mills on July 25 for an unforgettable night of music with Eddie Simmons and Dayna Quinlan. Get ready to be blown away by their incredible talent and captivating performances!

Eddie is an Irish singer/songwriter from Roscrea. His style of music is a mix of acoustic pop/folk. He has opened shows for acts such as Aslan, Mundy and The Revs. Eddie has gigged in Germany, Spain, Austria and Australia. He has also had five songs reach the top five in the Irish iTunes Charts.

Dayna is a 17-year old local singer/songwriter who has completed all her grades in Musical Theatre and won the National Award of Excellence in Music with Griffith College. Dayna is a member of Roscrea Musical Society and landed herself the lead role, playing Sandy for their 2024 production of Grease.

This event will take place in the stunning setting of the Black Mills. The Black Mills dates from the first half of the 18th century and is located near the 11th century Round Tower and the 12th century Romanesque church. The Black Mills and the surrounding land have been in state care since 1991. When the property came into state care, it was clear that there was an extreme amount of work required if it was to be restored and made accessible to the general public.

The acquisition of the property was also seen as an ideal opportunity to protect St Cronan's Cross and to provide interpretive material on the monastic settlement that was located in this part of Roscrea. St Cronan's Cross, which was located in the church grounds nearby, was relocated to the mill to fully protect it for future generations.

The acoustic properties in the mill make this an ideal venue to hold music sessions.

As seating is limited, tickets (€10) must be purchased in advance. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, July 7, at 8pm via Eventbrite. Don't miss out on this opportunity to experience live music at its best. Mark your calendars and bring your friends along for a night you won't forget!

We can't wait to see you there!
