Tipperary to welcome GAA Palestine Tour

This July, Tipperary will proudly host the GAA Palestine Tour on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 22 and 23, in an uplifting show of friendship, culture, and solidarity through Gaelic Games.

This is part of a two week visit by GAA Palestine where 33 children and 17 coaches from West Bank will tour Ireland.

As part of their historic visit to Ireland, the Palestinian team will be warmly welcomed into the heart of Tipperary for a full day of sport, cultural exchange, and community connection. Local GAA clubs, inter-county players, and solidarity groups from across the region are uniting to make this a powerful and unforgettable experience. The group’s itinerary is:

TUESDAY, JULY 22

3pm - Arrival and meal at Hayes' Hotel, Thurles - the historic founding place of the GAA.

4pm - Guided tour of Lár na Páirce GAA Museum.

5pm - Tour of Semple Stadium, with a meet and greet featuring inter-county players.

6pm - Mini-games at Dr Morris Park, involving underage teams from across Tipperary and Roanmore GAA, Waterford - who are twinned with Ramallah in Palestine. This event is open to the public - all are welcome to attend and cheer them on!

7.30pm - Refreshments and twinning ceremony at Sarsfields Centre, celebrating the solidarity link between Roanmore GAA and Ramallah. Presentation of medals to all players. All welcome

WEDNESDAY, JULY 23

The children and their coaches will be welcomed to Cashel by the Cashel for Palestine Solidarity Group with a special visit to the iconic Rock of Cashel, offering a moment of cultural and historical connection.

COMMUNITY SOLIDARITY

Local groups including Droichead Solidarity Group, Nenagh Friends of Palestine, Cashel for Palestine, and IPSC North Tipperary are deeply honoured to be part of this visit and encourage everyone to come out and show their support.

A spokesperson said: “This is more than just a sporting visit - it's a powerful gesture of solidarity, humanity, and connection. We urge communities to come out, meet the children and their coaches, attend the mini-games, support the table quiz, and buy raffle tickets. Every gesture of support matters.”

TABLE QUIZ FUNDRAISER – JULY 4

To help fund the tour and ensure a warm welcome for our guests, a table quiz fundraiser will be held at:

Revel the Ragg, Tipperary, on Thursday, July 4, at 8pm. There will be spot prizes, a raffle, great craic and much more. All funds raised will go directly to supporting the GAA Palestine Tour.

The spokesperson added: “This is a unique moment in our county’s history - an opportunity to show that Gaelic Games are truly for all, and that the spirit of welcome and justice lives on in Tipperary. Let’s make it a visit to remember.”
