Efforts to protect Barn Owl in Tipperary
The efforts by Tipperary County Council to preserve and protect the barn owl was praised by Cllr Michael O’ Meara at the June meeting of the Nenagh Municipal District.
Cllr O’ Meara said the council’s Biodiversity Officer, Anne Marie Fleming, was doing tremendous work to promote the biodiversity of the county.
He particularly praised the work being done in relation to barn owls. Because of those efforts there were currently eight to ten pairs of the endangered species thriving in the Rathcabbin area.
Ms Fleming said there was a group in Thurles that was happy to speak to people who were interested in helping to protect and preserve the species. The council provides barn owl nesting boxes for free.
