Call for Lyme Disease signage
Tipperary Co Council has been asked to erect signage at public walkways and amenities warning people about Lyme Disease.
A notice of motion was tabled at the council’s May meeting by Cllrs Richie Molloy and Roger Kennedy, who wanted to create awareness about “this terrible disease”. They said signage, which is available free of charge from the Lyme Resource Centre, could help inform people of what to do in the event of being bitten by a tic.
They were informed that the council would highlight the Lyme Disease message through its social media platforms. The council was to seek further advice from its insurer, Irish Public Bodies, over the liability risk of erecting signage.
“Subject to liability not being an issue, the council agrees to liaise with the Lyme Resource Centre concerning designated locations where signage should be erected at council-managed public parks/amenities. The matter will then require to be considered as part of the budget process, having regard to funding and resource allocations.”
