Greenway going nowhere
A local councillor has cast doubt over the plan to build a greenway between Ballina and Dromineer.
Cllr Phyll Bugler mentioned the options selection report sent to TII at the May meeting of Tipperary Co Council. She said it seemed the route being pursued for the proposed Lough Derg Greenway followed upland agricultural land.
"You'd need to be extremely fit to cycle up there," she observed. "Unless we get land by the lakeshore that belongs to the ESB, I don't think this greenway is going anywhere," Cllr Bugler said. "It's pointless spending money on it."
Director of Services Liam Brett said the greenway project is still in the early stages of feasbility study. There has been a lot of investment in the project to date and there is a need to bring it to the next stage, he said.
