Warning over forest fires
Local representatives are warning the public about the risk of forest fires associated with dry weather.
Speaking during the sustained spell of warm, dry weather at last week's meeting of Nenagh Municipal District, Cllr Pamela Quirke O'Meara pointed out that forest fires often arise in such conditions. She suggested that the local authority should carry out a public awareness campaign.
In support, Cllr Michael O'Meara said bog land is also susceptible to fire during such conditions. "Ground conditions are incredibly dry," Cllr O'Meara said, adding that increased use of barbeques at this time heightens the risk of fire.
"People should be extra careful. Forest fires can create even more damage than a storm."
