TCDA presentation to Tom
Templemore Community Development Association (TCDA) gathered in Templemore Town Hall on Thursday evening last to mark the contribution of Tom Peters, first Chairperson of TCDA.
Following the dissolution of town councils in 2014, there were voids left in many communities throughout the country. Following a number of meetings, TCDA eventually got off the ground following a public meeting in 2017 at which Tom was elected as its first chairperson. He continued in this role until 2020 before handing over the reins to Kevin Ludlow.
That was not the end for Tom, however as he continued to serve at committee level for a further four years before retiring in 2024. There have been many fine contributors to TCDA over the years but Tom always singled out the contribution of the late Bill Carr in the formation of the association.
Tom also had a very special working relationship with the late Mick Connell and together they completed many tasks. Now in its ninth year, TCDA is a well-established community development group with an excellent working relationship with Tipperary County Council.
Tom was the Chairperson who led the TCDA during the launch of their Community Action Plan. This plan paved the way for numerous completed projects and others currently under development. One such project was the redevelopment of the Town Hall, which, as all agreed, has revitalised the centre of Templemore town.
A presentation was made to Tom on that night to recognise his leadership, commitment, and extraordinary service to the association and the town of Templemore during his time with TCDA.
