Electric Ireland All Ireland Minor Hurling Semi-Final

Congratulations to our Minor Hurlers who have qualified for the All Ireland Final thanks to a one-point, extra time, win over Galway in last Saturday’s semi-final at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

This was a very exciting game of hurling played at a very fast pace throughout and while Galway were reduced to fourteen men at an early enough stage, they really battled and asked a lot of questions of James Woodlock’s side. However, Tipperary to their credit answered all the questions that were asked of them and won 1-24 to 0-26.

Tipp will play Kilkenny in the final, which is due to take place on Saturday, June 29th. The venue for the game was agreed following agreement from both Kilkenny and Tipperary to toss for home venue with the match taking place at UPMC Nowlan Park at 5.30pm.

In the event of a future meeting between Kilkenny and Tipperary in an All-Ireland Minor Final, the game shall be played at FBD Semple Stadium.

Tipperary Football Committee thank Paul Kelly

Tipperary Football Committee would like to thank Paul Kelly and his management team for their service and commitment in taking over Tipperary's senior football team in 2024.

After exiting in the Tailteann Cup, Paul Kelly informed the Football Committee and the players that he and his management team were stepping down from their position and would not be taking the team forward into the 2025 season.

We are sorry to lose Paul’s services; he has brought another level of professionalism and awareness necessary to take Tipperary football to the next level. We wish Paul and his team all the best in the future, and we are sure whatever team they take next will be very grateful for their expertise as was Tipperary in 2024.

FBD Insurance County Football League Finals

Last weekend saw the finals of the FBD Insurance County Football Leagues taking place.

On Saturday evening, neighbours Clonmel Commercials and Moyle Rovers met in Fethard, with the Division 1 title on the line. As would be expected when these sides play, the game was very well contested all through and in the end, it was Moyle Rovers who were victorious 2-7 to 1-6.

On Sunday in Cahir, Rockwell Rovers had seven points to spare over Galtee Rovers in the Division 2 final, winning 5-7 to 1-12.

Also, on Sunday in Ned Hall Park Clonmel, St Patricks and Fethard met to decide the destination of the Division 3 title. In another well-contested game, it was Fethard who were that little more clinical in their finishing as they won 1-11 to 0-9.

Referees

The Tipperary Referees Committee held their presentation night last week where referees who had officiated county finals were presented with their medals. Also, all referees were given new gear and umpires uniforms.

It was also a special night for Sinead McGlinchey from Newport who was welcomed into the Tipperary refereeing community. Sinead is currently our only female referee. We wish Sinead the very best in her new role, hoping this paves the way for a more balanced gender representation among our referees.

Full interview with Sinead in next week’s Nenagh Guardian.

Poc Fada Na Mumhan

Poc Fada Na Mumhan took place on Saturday on the Galtee Mountains, hosted by Garryspillane GAA club, Limerick.

The poor weather didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the contestants on what was an ideal course. A special word of thanks to Limerick Games Development Committee and in particular their Head of Games James Ryan and his staff for running the event in a most professional manner.

Colin Ryan from Pallasgreen, Limerick won the senior competition and the Tommy Quaid Cup for the second year in a row, with second placed Cathal Dillon from Aherlow, joining him in the National Finals on 5th August in the Cooley Mountains. Tipperary were also represented by Darragh Mooney from Eire Og Annacarty who finished fifth.

Matthew O'Sullivan from Ballyheigue, Kerry won the U16 competition and also will represent Munster at the National Finals. Tipperary’s Ned O’Meara, from Mullinahone, finished fourth.

A special word to Pat Donnelly for sponsoring the event and to Christy Ryan for presenting the trophies.
