St Patrick's weekend festivities around North Tipp

NENAGH

The 2024 festivities will begin on Saturday, March 16, with music and live performances in Nenagh Tourist Office and Banba Square. On St Patrick's Day, Sunday, March 17, the Nenagh celebrations will feature a large outdoor concert and festival market situated in the Nenagh Courthouse carpark from 1pm. This year’s celebrations will culminate in a special visit, parade and performance on Wednesday, March 20, by the John F Kennedy High School Band from La Palma, California.

NEWPORT

Newport's St Patrick's Day Parade is taking place on this Saturday afternoon, the eve of the national holiday.

For the first time, since the parade was first held eleven years ago, the event moves to mid afternoon and will be slotted in neatly to conclude in time for rugby enthusiasts looking forward to the Ireland v Scotland crucial match in the Six Nations Championship for Ireland to retain the championship with kick off at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin at 4.45pm.

Assembly point for participants is the Centra Supermarket on the Limerick Road from where the parade will move off from at 3pm sharp travelling through the town before returning to the viewing stand at Main Street, Newport for announcement of the winners in the different categories and presentation of the awards.

ROSCREA

The parade commences at 3.30pm and will include the Thomas McDonagh Pipe Band and the Theresa Larkin School of Music.

There are a number of floats entering the parade in the following categories: Best Overall Entry: Chamber of Commerce Perpetual Trophy an €200 sponsored by Roscrea Chamber of Commerce; Best Business Float – Lupton & Associates Perpetual Trophy; Best local community group/sports club – Roscrea Tidy Towns Trophy; Special Recognition Award - Roscrea Credit Union Perpetual Trophy; Special Merit Award – St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee.

BALLINA

The annual Killaloe-Ballina St Patrick’s Day Parade will leave from Ballina GAA complex at 2.15pm on Sunday, March 17, and finishing on The Green in Killaloe. You are invited to enter a float or just come along and enjoy the day. The organisers are seeking volunteers to act as stewards along the parade route. CLOUGHJORDAN

All are invited to a special celebration of song and music in honour of St Patrick, which will take place on St Patrick's night, next Sunday (March 17), at 8pm in St Michael and John's Church, Cloughjordan. Bígí linn ar an lá speisialta seo.

Voluntary contributions towards Cloughjordan Community Playground can be made on the night.

THURLES

The finishing touches are being put to arrangements for the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade which takes place at 2.30pm on March 17. The parade will assemble at Abbey Road and move via Friar Street to the viewing stand at Liberty Square. Traffic restrictions will be in place for the duration of the parade. There will be entertainment in the square prior to the start of the parade.

TEMPLEMORE

Templemore’s St Patrick’s Day Committee are thrilled to announce a full line-up of music and celebration for Templemore this year. Everyone is welcome to what will be a multi-national audience. The committee urge everyone coming to pay special attention to minimal use and correct disposal of single use coffee cups, drinks bottles and other disposables to protect our local environment and further afield. The following acts and local celebrities will participate on the day:

The Thomas McDonagh Pipe Band, Our Lady’s All-Ireland Camogie Champions, Cill Shleibhe Comhaltas, The Strolling Bones Band, Clonmore Dance School, Los Cajones Band, Singers and musicians Aoife Kelly, Ben Collins, Ciara O’Brien, Niamh Kennedy, Stories on the Big Screen and of course lots of Treats for the Children!

So come one, come all to Templemore Town Square and join in the craic from 12 noon on St. Patrick’s Day!
