Public urged to take part in bird survey

Have you ever considered taking part in a bird survey? We are running a series of workshops for the Countryside Bird Survey (CBS) and are looking for volunteers to help with it this spring. CBS is carried out between April 1 and June 30 every year. It involves two early morning walks in the countryside, about four weeks apart, to count birds in a 1km square. The work is done and dusted by 9am!

The following free training days have now been scheduled:

- Sunday, March 3, - Cabragh Wetlands, Thurles, County Tipperary.

The Countryside Bird Survey (CBS) is one of Ireland's long-term bird monitoring surveys. It was established in 1998 and has since been undertaken annually. The CBS monitors the status of common and widespread breeding birds (Robin, Wren, Blackbird, Chaffinch etc.) as well as some of the scarcer ones. This important survey employs the efforts of more than 200 observers each year.

These training days aim to encourage new and interested volunteers as well as to provide feedback to already existing participants. The Countryside Bird Survey (CBS) is co-ordinated by BirdWatch Ireland and Funded by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. These training days are kindly funded by the Environmental Protection Agency.
