New children’s book available in Nenagh
‘Mossy and Albert Rook’ is the title of a new book for children written by Beverley Penn of Doon, Co Limerick.
It is a story of a friendship that begins when nine- year-old Mossy asks a rook what it’s like to fly. Mossy and her parents (and their dog Yogi) have moved away from Mossy’s friends but Mossy soon finds herself on an adventure with her new friend Albert.
Mossy, so nicknamed because at birth her hair looked more like moss than a baby's hair, is caring, environmentally aware and brave. She is committed to what she believes in, which leads her on a journey of discovery and the fantastic. Part fantasy, part reality, the story’s themes are patience, compassion and courage, as well as learning to understand and care for the natural world and for a species of bird that is often overlooked. Beverley has lived in Ireland for nearly 30 years with her ecologist husband and is passionate about nature. She is at present also involved in a short film called 'Bog' and she hopes her work so far gives a glimpse into the world she finds beautiful, enchanting but sadly under threat.
The book is printed on recycled paper using non-soy vegetable ink and is available from Bookworm in Thurles, The Bookshop in Nenagh, The Urban Co-op in Limerick, Birdwatch Ireland and Norfolk Wildlife Trust in the UK. All proceeds go to the John Aves Education Project, which is a project to help Palestinian students with their tuition fees.
