Michael is fondly remembered

A FORMER Nenagh resident who died of a heart attack at the age of 61 was fondly remembered recently when a golf classic in his name was staged at the local golf club - an event that generated substantial funds for the Irish Heart Foundation.

Michael Lovett, who had moved from Nenagh to Spain many years ago, died unexpectedly from cardiac arrest in his adopted country in June 2018.

A keen golfer, Michael, who was a well-known businessman in Nenagh, founded a golf classic competition under his own name in Spain in 2010.

Thirteen years on, the competition under Michael’s name was again played in his absence at the course at Beechwood recently. Many locals took part and a number of Michael’s friends form Spain travelled specially to Nenagh to take part in the charity event.

A sum of €5,235 was raised and recently presented by members of Michael’s family to Martin Ryan of the Irish Heart Foundation.

Ger Lovett, brother of Michael, said he and his family were delighted with the huge support shown for the event and thanked everyone who backed it and took part.

Ger, along with his wife Madeline, daughter Sarah and son-in-law Darragh Egan put a great deal of work into organising the classic and are thrilled with the outcome.

The fundraiser also involved a raffle and a social in the Dapp Inn pub in Sarsfield Street, Nenagh.
