Newport’s relegation playoff berth confirmed
By Shane Brophy
Silvermines’ victory over Newport in their recent County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship clash has been confirmed after the Mulcair men queried an incident during the game.
Newport requested the County CCC investigate their belief that Silvermines player Oisin Murphy was issued with two yellow cards during the first half of the game in Templederry on August 26th last, but he wasn’t sent off by referee Seamus Delaney.
The CCC received clarification from the JK Brackens official prior to signing off on the referee’s report with Delaney stating he issued Murphy with one yellow card plus a tick, rather than a second yellow card which Newport claim.
No video evidence was put forward, as part of the investigation, so the result of the game stands with Silvermines winning 3-12 to 1-16, meaning Newport finish bottom of the group and head into a third straight relegation playoffs with Portroe, Sean Treacys and either Moyne-Templetuohy or St Mary’s which will be determined after this evenings outstanding game in group 1.
