New programme of evening events at Clough' museum

The Thomas MacDonagh Museum in Cloughjordan is delighted to announce a programme of evening events over the coming months, starting on Friday, August 25.

The Live and Local After Hours programme commences with the launch of the Book of Dimma Project exhibition, created by the Ballycommon Craft Group with artist Lian Callaghan as part of a Tipperary ETB Community Education Programme. The makers took their inspiration from the stunningly illustrated Book of Dimma - Tipperary’s own Book of Kells - creating a selection of beautiful and unique textile interpretations of this local eighth-century Gospel Book. The event will include an exhibition of the pieces created by Ballycommon Craft Group as well as images from the Book of Dimma. The makers will be available to explain some of the techniques used to create the exhibition, and you can discover some of the history and mythology of the Book of Dimma with a short introduction by historian and author George Cunningham.

This event will take place from 7.30 – 9.30pm on Friday week, and the exhibition will remain on display in the museum until Saturday, September 30.

Our programme will continue with a series of Friday evening events to include music, spoken word and history, all of which will be free of charge. A tour of the museum will also be on offer on each of these evenings.

According to the Report of the Night-Time Economy Taskforce, published in September 2021, Ireland’s cultural institutions, local museums and galleries have an important role to play in the creation of a more diverse night-time economy sector, which does not centre around the sale of alcohol, and the Thomas MacDonagh Museum is delighted to participate in this initiative.

The events are made possible by a grant under the Night-Time Economy Initiative of the Department of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
