Milestone for historical society
On July 12, 2013, a group came together in the Pavilion, Ballinderry, to form the Kilbarron Terryglass Historical Society.
The purpose of the group was to collect and preserve the rich history of the area. Our logo was designed by the children of Kilbarron and Terryglass primary schools. It incorporates the different symbols of the parish, the waterfall in Carrigahorig, the Abbot of Terryglass, the bridge in Ballinderry, the bell-tower on Kilbarron church, a castle of Coolbawn and the spinning wheel of Finnoe.
We received great support and encouragement from members of a previous historical society in the area. We thank all of you who have supported us since 2013, especially those who have shared their history with us. Over the years we have had many guest speakers, which even continued during the three years of Covid, through the use of modern technology.
We wish to thank these speakers for their time, encouragement and contribution to the society. To all our sponsors over the years, we are very grateful, and also Tipperary Co Council, the Heritage Office, Arts Office and our local councillors. We also acknowledge the help we received from other historical societies.
We thank all of you who have connected with us from home and abroad. In every organisation there is a committee, but without you our members we would not be here.
This Friday night, July 14, we will gather in Hannigan’s, Kilbarron for a ‘Get-together’ where we will look back on the past 10 years, and look forward to the next 10!
Refreshments will be provided on the night and music by Airs and Graces. Do feel free to join us.
