Students Emma Clifford and Ava Ryan entertaining at the Leaving Certificate Graduation Ceremony at Newport College.Students took centre stage at the 2023 Graduation Ceremony for the Leaving Certificate class at Newport College, marking a milestone in their education.
Organisers and co-ordinators of the evening programme at the college were drawn from the 50 plus students who were marking the completion of their second level education and saying thanks and goodbye to the teachers who had tutored them over the past six years.
Joint Masters of Ceremonies for the event were Luke Collins and Sean Nolan, who took over the proceedings following words of welcome to parents, students, and friends of the college by Sixth Year Head, Michelle McMahon.
‘Slipping through My Fingers’ was beautifully rendered by Tracey English before two of the students, Kevin O'Brien and Shauna Pearson, gave an outline of their years of study for the Leaving Certificate at the college.
Emma Clifford and Ava Ryan sang ‘Valerie’ accompanied by Shauna Pearson on the guitar to lead the programme to the anxiously awaited announcement of the recipients chosen to be honoured with the graduation class certificates for 2023.
Georgina Boylan, who was described as the student always with the “big smile and the big hello” received the overall Student of the Year award, which was presented to her by Timmy Fleming of the teaching staff.
Recipient of the Student of the Year award for the Leaving Certificate Applied Class was Kevin O'Brien who was presented with the award by Michelle McMahon.
Local member of Tipperary County Council, Fiona Bonfield, Chairperson of the Board of Management at the college, congratulated the graduating students on the completion of their second level education. Cllr Bonfield wished them well in their future education and careers, before presenting the Tipperary ETB Core Values Senior Award to Darren Gleeson.
The Extra-Curricular Senior Award was presented to David Healy, and Emily Bowen received the Spirit of Newport College Award.
Claire Sullivan, Deputy Principal, congratulated the Leaving Certificate students on the completion of their education at the college and wished them well for their future study and careers.
She thanked the students for choosing Newport College and for their courtesy and kindness to everyone during their time attending, and also expressed the appreciation of all at the college to the parents for their co-operation and support at all times.
The ceremony concluded with a musical interlude and refreshments for all.
