Country homes on the market
Sale of well-known period residences in Lough Derg area
Old country homes on the market in the Lough Derg area have been attracting keen interest, according to Sherry Fitzgerald Talbot.
The Nenagh-based selling agent is involved in a number of high profile offers, including the recent sale of Slevoir House near Terryglass. This well-known country mansion, which dates from circa 1875, was offered jointly between Sherry Fitzgerald Talbot and Sherry Fitzgerald Country Homes.
Previously owned by Mrs Dianne Anderson, Slevoir House extends to 1,200 sq m (GIA) together with extensive stone-built outbuildings, courtyard and stands in pasture lands of 48 ha with the benefit of 1.4km frontage onto Lough Derg. The property was renovated extensively and was in first-class condition throughout.
Earlier this year, Slevoir featured on Selling Ireland's Dream Homes. It was offered for sale at an asking price of €2.95 million, and the agents experienced strong interest both from the domestic and overseas markets.
As a result of competitive bidding, the property exceeded the asking price and was sold to an overseas purchaser with the view of use as a private home. The solicitor with carriage of sale was Michael Collins, Borrisokane.
KILODIERNAN HOUSE
Other period properties currently on the market with Sherry Fitzgerald Talbot include Kilodiernan House, Puckane. Comprising an elegant Georgian residence together with stone-built outbuildings, Kilodiernan House is thought to have been built circa 1820. It sits in a secluded and private position within its impressive grounds. A handsome round-headed door opening, flanked by Doric columns, leads through the doorway into the entrance hall.
The dual-aspect drawing room and dining room both boast six-over-six large sliding sash windows, overlooking the lawns, and magnificent fireplaces. The drawing room has direct access to the south-facing lawns via French doors.
This spacious residence, which comprises 378 sq m (GIA) was renovated and upgraded by the Purcell family and is on the market for €950,000. It is nicely approached by a sweeping avenue from the main road and is set on 14.75 ha of mainly good-quality pasture lands. It is superbly situated on the edge of Puckane village with its many amenities and within 6km of Dromineer.
DROMINAGH LODGE
Drominagh Lodge is described as “classic country house” situated close to Lough Derg and has plenty to offer a prospective purchaser. It comes from an era when Victorian elements were lifting the heavier symmetry of the Georgian period. This gives touches such as a colonnaded veranda, arched stone steps leading to the front door, and lovely deeply-inset casement windows with panelled surrounds and shutters. The ceilings are high, and the proportions are good, making this a wonderful canvas from which to draw inspiration.
This magnificent period residence, which overlooks a private pond, is alive with nature. It offers 260 sq m of accommodation and contains excellent accommodation over three floors. There are also extensive outbuildings including stables, haybarn, and fuel shed. It stands on 3.67 ha of private gardens and private woodland.
The property has been owned by the same family since the 1880s. Today that history sits peacefully within Drominagh’s stone walls, and rests gently in the woodlands that surround the property. It is one of a string of classic Irish period country houses that are dotted along the lush landscapes of the shores of Lough Derg. This property is on the market with an asking price of €599,950.
