North Tipp Hospice and Irish Cancer Society Fundraiser

It is the stuff of nightmares. Your world is turned upside down and control is gone. Poor health diagnoses, informing family and friends, ignorance around medication, employment on hold, absolute exhaustion, etc.

And then there is light. Many cancer patients and family members rely heavily on the help and guidance of the Hospice Association/Irish Cancer Society. Dignity, empathy, direction and a listening ear are provided with the utmost discretion; and this allows family and friends process the situation and cherish and avail of the precious time afforded them with loved ones. Palliative Care Hospice Nurses tend to the ill in the patients’ own homes or in Hospice facilities and this service is immeasurable in terms of worth. Family and patient counselling are also provided lending some semblance of clarity and acceptance along the way.

The Covid era has impacted negatively on these associations’ ability to fundraise. With this in mind, and with the chance to win extraordinary prizes, we ask for your help. The following events are planned; please note the dates:

- April 14: Fundraising Launch Night to include Table Quiz at Paddy’s Bar, Terryglass at 8pm

- September 9: Auction and Family Fun Day in Aglish

October 29: Dublin City Marathon Run

November 25: Raffle Draw and Presentation of Funds to Irish Cancer Society and North Tipperary Hospice.

EXCELLENT PRIZES

The following raffle draw prizes are up for grabs:

- €1,000 Holiday Voucher sponsored by DK Travel, Nenagh

- €500 Brown Thomas Voucher sponsored by Monami Construction

- Bed and Breakfast in a Family Room (one night) in the Pillo Hotel in Ashbourne and Family tickets to Tayto Park

- Bed and Breakfast and Evening Meal (one night) for two plus two Spa Treatments at the County Arms Hotel in Birr

- Bed and Breakfast and Evening Meal (one night) for two in the Pembroke Hotel in Kilkenny.

This project is undertaken by the family and friends of Deirdre Darcy Hogan, who did stalwart work in raising funds for the Hospice Association and the Irish Cancer Society in the past. We are honouring Deirdre’s legacy and her memory in conducting this fundraising.  We are inspired by her bravery and achievements, and appreciate your help in doing Deirdre proud and raising money once again.

Good luck to our Marathon participants, who are part of the fundraising project! Deirdre’s brothers in-law Eamon, Tom, Vincent and Brian have dedicated their time and extraordinary effort to run the Dublin City Marathon in October. Not only are they doing this in honour of Deirdre but also for their late mother, Alice Hogan.
