By Shane Brophy
Gaelic Sport in Nenagh Volume 3 has been launched.
The latest edition is the successor to volumes 1 & 2 which were published 2014 and is similar in both content and style. This volume covers both hurling and Gaelic football from 1960 to the beginning of the new millennium, running to a total of 840 pages.
All GAA activity in Eire Og from 1960 onwards at U12; U14; U16; Minor, Junior, intermediate, and senior levels in both hurling and football figure prominently in this Club History book, with the front cover featuring one of the clubs most famous sons, Mick Burns, after winning the 1964 North Tipperary Senior Hurling title, which is one of the milestone moments focused on in the book, the first time the Frank McGrath Cup was brought back to his native Nenagh.
Each year’s participation with fixtures and results in both hurling and football in all grades are meticulously recorded except for those records which do not exist despite having been forensically researched.
It also details the Eire Óg club’s participation and successes in Scór, both juvenile and senior at Club, North and County level, as well as Handball at Club, North, County, Munster and All-Ireland level are well documented with all wins recorded. Camogie and Track & Field are also well covered in this publication.
There is a great emphasis on Street Leagues from 1962 onwards which was the genesis of some future successful juvenile and Adult teams.
Nenagh Eire Óg club Officers, Committee members, Captains and vice-captains, selectors, trainers, and coaches are also recorded year by year.
All of the Club’s milestones are given special attention with reports, comments and observations attached to the list of North and County victories.
