The late Ned Tierney

Crepello runs his final race

The Nenagh Guardian and the Tipperary racing community in general were sad to learn of the passing recently of Ned Tierney, who wrote the popular Crepello racing column.

From October 2000, when Crepello’s racing and breeding column first appeared in the Nenagh Guardian, Ned provided a local eye on the national racing scene, particularly providing profiles on the unheralded local stables and their successes at tracks around the country.

Hail, rain, or sunshine, the Crepello column had been a weekly staple of the Nenagh Guardian’s sports coverage for the last twenty years with Ned’s his personal relationships with local trainers, providing a up close and personal insight into the racing scene.

A native of Cashel, Ned’s final column appeared in the Nenagh Guardian in the October 31st last and while he was taking a short break, sadly he passed away in the meantime on November 11th, at the age of eighty, following a short illness.

Ned Tierney is survived by his wife Barbara, sons David, Robert and Edward, extended family and wide circle of friends. May he rest in peace.
