Nenagh and Newport progress in Munster Cup

Nenagh AFC and Newport Town progressed to the second round of the Munster Junior Cup after comfortable first round wins last weekend.

On Saturday, Newport Town were back to their best when they saw off Newtown Rangers 4-1, away from home. Keith Mawdsley scored two while Elliot Slattery and Brian O'Sullivan also netted for the winners.

Nenagh AFC ‘A’ defeated Moyross United 2-0 in Brickfields on Sunday, with the goals coming from Matthew Spain and Paul Costello.

However, an under-strength Nenagh AFC ‘B’ lost 3-0 away to Mungret Regional where Evan Barrett, Marcus Finucane and Cian McNicholas were on target.

League

Last Thursday, Nenagh AFC suffered a heavy 5-0 home defeat to Ballynanty Rovers in the premier division with Jake Dillon, Dermot Fitzgerald, Eddie Byrnes, Aaron Nunan and Adam Costello on the mark for the visitors.
