White Flag awards for Nenagh Leisure Centre
Nenagh Leisure Centre was recently awarded the White Flag national standard for leisure centres and hotel leisure clubs.
The White Flag encompasses Safety, Hygiene, Customer Engagement and HR Criteria. There are three levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The White Flag is awarded based on external auditing by Ireland Active. It takes place in July – August each year. 2016 was the first year that Nenagh Leisure Centre applied for the award and achieved the highest points in the Bronze category.
A lot of hard work by the staff and management of the leisure centre was required in order to achieve the award. It also required input from the executive of Nenagh Municipal District and the users of Nenagh Leisure Centre. The awarding of the White Flag shows the continuing commitment to achieving the highest standards in the leisure industry. It is the intention to strive for the Silver award next year and ultimately the Gold standard as soon as possible.
Nenagh Leisure Centre has also achieved a Silver Accessibility White Flag, again awarded by Ireland Active and CARA. The award recognised the commitment to providing leisure facilities to as many people as possible in the community by installing equipment to allow greater access, adjusting equipment to allow maximum use, providing specialised changing facilities, installing tactile and highly visual controls.
The Cathaoirleach of the Nenagh Municipal District, Cllr Phyll Bugler, attended the awards ceremony, which was held in the Hudson Bay Hotel, Athlone, on Friday November 11th, along with Tom Mackey, Leisure Centre Manager; Peter Hennelly, Leisure Centre Superintendent, and other representatives from the Nenagh Municipal District. She commended the staff of the leisure centre on the achievement of the award, saying: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to attend the awards ceremony and I pay tribute to all those involved in achieving this award. I know that it reflects the commitment of the staff and management to ensuring that the highest possible standards apply. The facilities available in Nenagh Leisure Centre and the adjacent Town Park are second to none and represent the investment made in providing facilities to enhance the area and make it a better place in which to live, work and visit.”
Councillors joined in congratulating the management and staff of the centre at last week's Nenagh Municipal District. Cllr Hughie McGrath said people speak highly of the professionalism and courtesy shown at the centre. Cllr Ger Darcy described the centre as an excellent facility for the people of the district.
