State examinations to begin this week

Commencing this coming Wednesday, June 8th, the 2016 Leaving and Junior Certificate State Examinations are predicted to see some 120,000 candidates sit the exams over 5,000 examination centres nationwide.

This significant number consists of 56,595 candidates who are predicted to sit the Leaving Certificate examination, 2,811 predicted to sit the final year examinations in the Leaving Cert Applied and the largest number being the Junior Cert candidates with a predicted 60,652 to sit the State exams this year.

Among the 120,000 candidates, it is predicted that 1,033 students of the North Tipp constituency, 540 being male and 493 female and 1,111 students from the South Tipp constituency consisting of 535 females and 576 males, will sit the exams this year.

5,000 superintendents involved in supervising the written examinations have, since the June bank holiday weekend, taken posession of the locked boxes containing 4 million examination papers that are required by those sitting the exams over the 13 day examination period. At the end of the exam period, 4,300 examiners will be on hand to mark the work that has been presented by the candidates in the written examinations with an additional 2,300 examiners required to mark the oral and practical tests which have taken place over the past couple of months.

Thursday, June 23rd, will then see the Leaving Certificate exams come to a finish with the Junior Certificate exams finishing on Friday, June 24th. The written examinations in the Leaving Certificate Applied programme will come to an end at the earlier date of Thursday, June 16th.

The results of the Leaving Certificate examinations will be available on Wednesday, August 17th with the Junior Cert candidates receiving their results at a later date in mid- September.
