Death of former postman
The sudden and unexpected death took place of Martin Kennedy, Graigue, Rathcabbin. Martin passed away on Thursday, October 15, while on holiday in Lanzarote with his wife Mary. Blessed with a very happy disposition, he always had a smile and a welcome for all he met and was known with affection for always having a story to tell, and he heard many a story on his daily rounds around the parish as postman. He was a good neighbour, obliging and helpful to all. Martin was a supporter and member of North Tipp Ploughing for many years and likewise, he helped and was steward at the National event too some years ago.
Martin was a postman all his life, following in the footsteps of his late father John in the 1970s. He served in the parish of Lorrha and Rathcabbin and retired in July 2019 after 48 years service. He could be always relied upon as he was very reliable, kind and helpful, in particular to the elderly.
He was highly regarded throughout the parish and down through the years people would give him their keys and ask him to keep an eye on their house while they were away for a few days. His untimely and sudden passing has left a void for his wife and family and also in the community where he was a constant presence.
Predeceased by his loving parents Mary and John Kennedy, Martin is deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary, sons Adrian and Kevin, daughters Aisling, Edel and Fiona. His brothers Michael, Patrick, Flan and Bernard. Daughters in law Pamela and Aoife, sons-in-law Declan and Alan, his beloved grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends to whom sympathy is extended.
Martin's Funeral Mass took place on Thursday, October 29, at Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church, Rathcabbin, with burial afterwards in Bonoham Cemetery. May his soul rest in peace.
