Tenth anniversary of Nenagh musician’s death
This week saw the tenth anniversary of the untimely passing of Nenagh musician Gerry McNamara.
Gerry was just 39 when he died in 2016 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. A gifted drummer, he was well-known in the local music scene for playing with several bands and co-founding Nightmare Promotions, an outfit for promoting live music gigs.
In the years since his death, Gerry’s friend and fellow musician Phil Brett has organised an annual fundraiser for Milford Hospice, which treated Gerry and his family so well during the Nenagh man’s final days.
This year’s ‘Remembrance’ showcase gig will be held at The Talbot Bar in Nenagh on Saturday, October 3. It has an exceptionally exciting lineup featuring many musicians that Gerry befriended over the years.
Marking the 20th anniversary of their foundation, Castero will make a long-awaited return this Saturday night. They will be joined by Weezer tribute band Weezer’d – playing their first local gig.
The night will be complemented by the always wild and exciting live show of Feckin’ Raging (Rage Against the Machine tribute act), while the powerhouse that is Brigantia will also be making a welcome return.
This is a free-entry event but donations will be taken on the night for Milford Hospice.
All are welcome to join in remembering Gerry how he wished to be, through heavy music.
Further details can be found on the Nightmare Promotions Facebook page.
