Upperchurch road works to begin
The commencement of permanent road reinstatement works associated with the Upperchurch Wind Farm project will begin during the week commencing September 7, marking a significant milestone in the delivery of one of County Tipperary's most important renewable energy infrastructure projects.
The works will involve the permanent reinstatement and restoration of local roads in the Newport area, together with sections of the R503 Regional Road between Newport and Upperchurch, following the completion of substantial construction and transportation phases of the project.
Welcoming this important development, local councillor Fiona Bonfield acknowledged the considerable cooperation and patience shown by residents, landowners, road users, local businesses and community groups throughout the construction period.
“Reaching the stage where permanent road reinstatement works can commence is a major milestone for the Upperchurch Wind Farm project. We are very conscious of the disruption and inconvenience that large-scale infrastructure projects can bring to local communities, and we would like to sincerely thank everyone in Newport, Rearcross, Kilcommon Upperchurch and the surrounding areas for their patience, understanding and continued support while these necessary works were being carried out,” Cllr Bonfield commented.
The reinstatement programme will ensure that roads impacted during the construction phase are permanently restored, providing long-term benefits for local road users and communities.
The Upperchurch Wind Farm project remains on schedule for completion and commissioning by July 2027. Once operational, the wind farm will make a significant contribution to Ireland's renewable energy targets, helping to deliver clean, sustainable electricity while supporting national climate action objectives.
“This project represents an important investment in Tipperary's future. The development will deliver clean, climate-friendly energy for many years to come and will play a key role in strengthening Ireland's renewable energy capacity. We are pleased to be reaching another significant milestone and look forward to bringing the project into operation in July 2027,” Cllr Bonfield added.
Project stakeholders have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining ongoing engagement with local communities as the remaining phases of the development progress towards completion.
