Teehan and Ryan inspire Moneygall to victory over Duharra

A hat-trick of goals from Offaly star Mairead Teehan and an inspirational performance from former Tipperary great Mary Ryan led the way for Moneygall as they made it two from two in the Tipperary Senior Camogie Championship over Burgess/Duharra on Tuesday of last week.

It was a deserved victory for the Black & Red’s whose little bit more experience throughout their side shone through against a very young Burgess/Duharra side, who gave a good account of themselves, and had some good performances from the likes of Ella Slattery and Malwina Dziewiatika but they just lacked a little bit of quality in the final third.

The visitors got off to a flyer after just two minutes when a speculative effort from way out from Lily Duffy somehow found its way to the back of the Moneygall net.

The home side were off the mark two minutes later through a Mairead Teehan free, and the Offaly star had the ball in the back of the net a minute later after being picked out brilliantly by Mary Rya,n and after turning her marker, buried to the back of the net.

Amy Kennedy had Burgess level soon after with an excellent finish before two frees from Teehan were answered by a free from the returning Jenny Grace in the 16th minute.

Moneygall struck for their second goal two minutes later when Orlaith Cleary got onto a breaking ball and batted cleverly to the back of the net.

Grace replied with another free for Duharra to leave just a goal in it, but Moneygall would, after a scoreless spell of twelve minutes, finish the half strongly with a Cleary point, and then in the fourth minute of added time, Mairead Teehan added her second goal after being set up by Mary Teehan, as the home side led 3-4 to 1-5 at the break.

The second-half started as the first ended with another Teehan point from a free. Duharra struck back with two points in-a-row from Jenny Grace and then Amy Kennedy following a good run.

Just when it looked like Burgess might make a comeback, points from Teehan and Mary Ryan, and then straight from the puckout, Julie Kelly played a great ball in, which Teehan won before completing her hat-trick, and end the game a contest.

She would add her sixth point, and first from play, in the 61st minute, with Mary Ryan adding her second two minutes later, before a fine effort from Burgess’ Katie Grace rounded off the scoring, as Moneygall ran out comfortable 12-point winners.
