Major water disruption in Tipp
Work is continuing this evening to bring water supplies back to normal for families, businesses and farming communities across Newport and the surrounding areas. Following an operational issue at the local water treatment plant, crews have made significant progress throughout the day and remain on site this evening, doing everything possible to restore supplies safely and minimise disruption for customers.
Homes and businesses in Birdhill, Ballina, Ballinahinch, Newport Town and surrounding areas may continue to experience interruptions to their water supply or outages this evening and into Wednesday. It’s expected that all those affected will have a full water supply on Wednesday evening.
We know how disruptive it is to be without water, particularly for families, businesses and vulnerable customers, and we want to assure the community that every effort is being made to return supplies as quickly and safely as possible.
To help support customers while repairs continue, alternative water supplies remain available at three locations:
- Newport Town: Opposite Sullivan’s Pub on Main Street and Cork Road at Glencree Housing Estate
- Ballina: Adjacent to carpark at Ballina Riverside pool
Customers are reminded to bring their own containers when collecting water from tankers and to boil the water before consumption.
Uisce Éireann’s Pierce Faherty has thanked those affected for their patience.
“We understand the impact this outage is having on the community, and we sincerely thank customers for their understanding. Our crews have been working continuously since the issue occurred and will remain on site until repairs are completed and water supply is fully restored. While we had hoped to have supply restored sooner, the works required are taking longer than originally expected. We know this news will be disappointing for customers and we want to reassure them that restoring water supply remains our absolute priority.”
Repair works are continuing, and once completed, water will begin to return to the network. However, it may take some time for treated water reservoirs to refill and for normal supply to be fully restored to all customers. Properties at the end of the network and those on higher ground may experience a longer restoration period as the system gradually recharges.
