New biogas plan for Birdhill

A company planning a biogas renewable energy facility near Birdhill has returned with a new application.

Annaholty Green Energy Ltd previously sought permission for a biogas plant at Thornhill and Annaholty last October, though the application was deemed incomplete by Tipperary Co Council.

The company has now submitted a Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) application for development consisting of planning permission for a period of 10 years for the construction and operation of a biogas facility comprising two primary anaerobic digesters, one secondary digester/storage tank, and a series of associated features including a two-storey admin building containing offices, laboratories, and welfare facilities, and a Gas Networks Ireland compound kiosk. A new site entrance off the L94451 is also planned.

A total of 168 submissions were received by Tipperary County Council in respect of the proposed development at the close of submissions on Wednesday, July 29.

A decision on the application is due by August 19.
